- Case Study
The current project deals with a vulnerability assessment
where disparate data from many different tools must be presented in
a standard spreadsheet format. The only way to deal with this was
to create multiple database tables with fields that form the superset
of data to be imported.
i. PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY
Navicat provided a quick and easy means of importing
many different spreadsheets into database tables and an easy way to
update those tables. Even after weeks of having a standard process
of managing the database we utilize Navicat's import mechanism to
handle unique data updates coming from our customer. Without this
ability we would be weeks behind schedule.
ii. STRENGTHS
Navicat's database views, query builders and export capabilities have
been heavily utilized during this project. Saving us numerous manhours.
iii. DELIVERABLES
Our project requires hundreds of data files to be imported into the
database on a weekly basis while requiring comprehensive spreadsheets
to be produced daily. Navicat makes this process very simple and manageable
by a single person.
iv. DOCUMENTATION
We have found Navicat very simple to use but the documentation is
very good at answering most questions that arise.
v. RECOMMENDATIONS
I have found that the query builder to be less than intuitive in building
complex SQL queries. Maybe a set of buttons at the top representing
"simple queries", "joins", "updates across
mulitple tables", "data counts" etc would be useful
in guiding the user through building a complex SQL statement.
